A bipartisan bill to facilitate alternative energy usage written by two members of the Young Texans Legislative Caucus was signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott last month.
On June 19, Abbott signed HB 1884, written by Chris Paddie (R-Marshall), co-chair of the YTLC, and caucus member Rafael Anchia (D-Dallas). The law relaxes restrictions on the types of contracts that local governments can sign with energy suppliers using funds received from the state. The new provisions authorize certain alternative fuel programs that reduce utility costs or emissions as eligible for state guarantees in order to offset the price of installation and implementation.
