Senator Nate Blouin (D-UT)
Energy & Environment Fellow

Nate moved to Utah in 2009 after spending his early years growing up in New Hampshire. He was raised to respect the great outdoors and followed his passion for skiing to Utah. His love of outdoor recreation and sustainability drew me to a career in renewable energy, and he hopes to continue that focus in the legislature.
When he moved to Utah, he originally thought it would be temporary. He is a proud graduate of Salt Lake Community College and went on to complete undergraduate studies at the University of Utah. He considers these his formative years, and spent time working for progressive candidates and causes before completing a master’s degree focused on public policy at Brown University.
After completing his master’s degree, he worked as an advocate for renewable energy across the west, managing policy and government affairs for a trade association that represents large businesses and nonprofits to promote expansion of solar, wind, energy storage and other advanced technologies. He is excited to apply my expertise to finding legislative solutions that will transform Utah into a renewable energy leader.
Senator Blouin is committed to strengthening the community through service, and volunteerism for a number of important causes and organizations. He has enjoyed working with refugees through Salt Lake City’s Know Your Neighbor program, and delivered groceries to high-risk folks throughout the pandemic. He has served as an advisor to a student-led campaign to transition Granite School District to clean energy, and sit on a handful of boards and committees including Friends of Alta, the SLCC Alumni Leadership Council, and the Salt Lake County Open Space Trust Fund Committee.
He lives in Sugar House with my wife Jackie, a lifelong Utahn from Murray and graduate of University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law who practices law here in Salt Lake City. They love living in SD13, from Sugar House to the Jordan River Parkway.
