The creation of a Jan. 6th commission should not be a partisan issue.
The attack on the Capitol was the inevitable result of deep, toxic political tribalism that we’ve seen in the modern day United States. We’ve said that the insurrection will go down as a turning point for our democracy, either towards renewal or destruction. The Jan. 6 commission is a step towards renewal.
Our democratic institutions are resilient, but only when we learn from the mistakes of the past to build a better future.
Democracy is a choice we Americans must make each day. In order to “form a more perfect union,” each of us must choose to commit to our country’s core founding principles and those words in our Constitution.
