COLUMBIA S.C. — Two South Carolina lawmakers are leading a new bipartisan caucus in the Palmetto State legislature.
Co-chairs Rep. Brandon Newton and Sen. Deon Tedder held a State House press conference on Wednesday to announce the establishment of the South Carolina Future Caucus.
Founded in 2013, the Future Caucus is a national movement made up of lawmakers 45-years-old and younger to encourage Gen-Z and millennial representation in state legislatures across America.
“America’s next generation has a unique opportunity to forge a new path and lead our nation into the future,” the national branch said in a statement. “Since 2013, Future Caucus has served over 1,800 Gen Z and millennial legislators across the country, activating young leaders to bridge the partisan divide and transform American politics.”
South Carolina marks the 35th state to join the Freedom Caucus, declaring a dedication to transcend political divisions and address community issues. Each state chapter has a co-chair from both major parties.
The group has yet to set their legislative priorities for the year.
