Moss Point, MS (September 22, 2017) – In support of the United Nations (UN) International Decade for People of African Descent representing years 2015 – 2024, the Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD), a global civil society initiative, will honor high achievers of African descent under the age of 40 from around the world. Contributions made to the state through Representative Anderson’s service as the youngest elected official in Mississippi’s history and Lott’s election as the first African American student body president at the University of Mississippi will be recognized at the event.
“Through my travels abroad, I formed relationships with young politicians from Kenya, Nigeria, and many other places who showed me that anyone can excel if they’re passion aligns with their actions,” said Anderson. “MIPAD brings together high-achieving people from all over who share this common pursuit of passion, and I’m proud to be honored with them at this year’s program.”
Following the opening of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly, the evening with MIPAD Class of 2017 will recognize and celebrate the contribution of 200 high achievers, 100 inside Africa, 100 across the African Diaspora, in four categories of Politics and Governance, Business and Entrepreneurship, Media and Culture, and Religion and Humanitarian endeavors in-line with the first pillar of the UN international decade of recognition.
“This is an incredible award that illustrates the contributions many people of color make around the world every day,” said Nic Lott. I am humbled to be selected to join so many talented people as I accept this award. Being an African-American who’s done a lot of firsts, I know the importance of honoring those who look like me and work every day to break barriers in our communities.”
