Representative Rui Xu

Kansas Future Caucus, Co-Chair (D)

Born in Switzerland, Rui Xu immigrated to the United States at two years old and became a citizen at twelve. After growing up in Rolla, Missouri, he left his hometown to earn a degree in economics from the University of Southern California. As a young professional he returned to the Midwest, moving to Kansas City to work as an analyst in sports and marketing.

With a growing desire to help disadvantaged communities and people, Rep. Xu made a career change and worked for the nonprofit Children International. Running for Kansas State Representative in 2018 was a natural next step for him. As a member of the legislature, he has worked for Kansans of all backgrounds, fighting for inclusive and fair government.

Rep. Xu currently serves as the ranking minority member of the Committee on Financial Institutions and Rural Development. He is also a member of the Committee on Finance, Labor, and Economic Development, the Joint Committee on Information Technology, the Joint Committee on Pensions, Benefits, and Investment, and the Committee on Agriculture. He has sponsored bills promoting environmental sustainability, supporting workers, and combatting discrimination.
