Representative Brandon Woodard

Kansas Future Caucus, CO-VICE-CHAIR (D)

Born in Topeka, Kansas, Brandon Woodard attended city public school before earning his Bachelor’s in political science with a minor in business from the University of Kansas. Nursing his passion for civic engagement, Brandon was a part of multiple public service clubs in college and was elected Student Body Vice President. 

After graduating, Rep. Woodard moved to Lenexa, Kansas and continued to push for civic engagement. As a community organizer, he has focused on equipping young Kansans with the tools and knowledge to participate in the political process. He was elected to the Kansas State Legislature in 2018 as one of the state’s first openly gay state representatives.

While in office, Rep. Woodard has fought for responsible, accountable governance and prioritized the public education system. He is currently the ranking minority member of the Higher Education Budget Committee. He also serves as a member of the Committees on Federal and State Affairs and the Committee on Insurance. He has taken a lead role on legislation to improve public education, prevent discrimination, make healthcare more accessible, and support crime victims.
