Florida Representative Kevin Chambliss (D)

Rep. Kevin Chambliss was born and raised in Columbus, Mississippi – he later graduated from Jackson State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. As a devout Democrat, he began his political career while in graduate school at Northern Illinois University (NIU) where he became Vice President of the NIU College Democrats, President of the Young Democrats of Dekalb County, and a member of the NIU NAACP Executive Board.

Rep. Chambliss first held elected office as a Dekalb County Board Member from 2008 to 2010. During his tenure on the Dekalb County Board, Rep. Chambliss led the effort to create a Diversity Statement for the county and developed short and long-range action plans to address a wide variety of municipal needs.

In 2010, Rep. Chambliss began his professional political experience as a Field Organizer in Deep South Dade for former Congressman Joe Garcia’s 2010 congressional campaign. After which, he served as his Director for South Dade until 2014. After which, Rep. Chambliss worked for Commissioner Dennis C. Moss, Congressman Carlos Curbelo, Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, and Congresswoman Donna Shalala as their South Dade community liaison.

Rep. Chambliss was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2020. He is currently the Democratic Ranking Member of the Select Committee on Hurricane and Resiliency & Recovery, and Agriculture & Natural Resources Appropriations Subcommittee, and a sitting member on the Judiciary Committee, and the Choice & Innovation; Higher Education; and Energy, Communications & Cybersecurity Subcommittees.

He currently resides in the beautiful City of Homestead. Rep. Chambliss has served the community through participation in the NAACP, South East Dade Ministerial Alliance, Miami-Dade County Democratic Executive Committee, and, past President of the South Dade Democratic Black Caucus – Ron Brown Chapter. He currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Miami-Dade County Legislative Delegation, and is a member of the South Dade NAACP, Florida Conference of Black State Legislators, National Conference of Black State Legislators and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
