Mark Kogan

Mark Kogan has been at the forefront of developing media strategies and managing crisis communications for clients ranging from tech start-ups to large government agencies. He serves as a key part of the media team providing guidance on new, traditional and mainstream media for military, civilian and corporate leaders. Most recently, Mark has led multiple communications teams in engagements for the Department of Defense’s Military Health System (MHS), including working closely with the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, the Defense Health Agency, and the Military Medical Departments.
Mark recently served as the senior communications adviser for the Secretary of Defense ordered MHS Review, providing input on how best to the communicate the findings and recommendations of the review for distribution to internal and external stakeholders and preparing senior Department leadership for engagements with the press.
In addition to his role with the MHS, Mark has also worked closely with millennial digital media platform Mic (formerlyPolicyMic), serving as liaison to the White House and helping to launch a week-long competition offering young people an opportunity to submit ideas on how to educate and engage young Americans on the issue of health care reform. The contest was launched at the 2013 White House Youth Summit keynoted by President Barack Obama and featured a panel moderated by Mic’s Editor-in-Chief.
In his free time, Mark writes extensively and his work has been featured in a variety of publications including Politico,SCOTUSBlog, The Huffington Post, No Labels, and others. He has also published multiple scholarly articles on the First Amendment, lawyers’ speech, and the Senate filibuster.
Mark received his J.D., cum laude, from American University’s Washington College of Law where he was a member of the American University Law Review and an award winning member of the Moot Court team. He received a double Bachelors degree with Honors from Stanford University in International Relations and Communication.
