WASHINGTON — On May 25th, personal finance website Wallethub released a study ranking all 50 states and Washington, D.C. according to the quality of living situation they provide for millennials. According to the study, Millennial quality of life is positively impacted by the presence of a Millennial Action Project (MAP) Future Caucus.
MAP hosts bipartisan Future Caucuses in Congress and 31 state legislatures, comprising a nationwide network of over 1,600 young lawmakers. These caucuses bring together legislators aged 45 and under from across the political spectrum to engage in collaborative policy innovation on the most pressing issues facing America’s young generations.
The Wallethub study, “2021’s Best & Worst States for Millennials,” used 34 metrics measuring affordability, education and health, quality of life, economic health, and civic engagement for each state’s millennial population.
MAP was a core source of data for the study. One of the three metrics used to quantify millennial civic engagement was the presence or absence of a Future Caucus in the state’s legislature. States with a Future Caucus were scored significantly higher in civic engagement and overall quality of life for millennials.
By including Future Caucuses as an indicator for millennial civic engagement and quality of life, the study illustrates a growing acknowledgement of the importance of millennial representation and leadership in politics. MAP is at the forefront of this movement, stewarding the next generation of leaders to transcend partisanship and build a new politics of empathy, civility, and solutions-oriented policymaking.
