Reps. Barbara Hernandez (D-Aurora) and David Welter (R-Morris) will Co-Chair MAP’s Illinois State Future Caucus
Springfield, IL — The Millennial Action Project announced today the leadership of their bipartisan coalition in the state legislature, the Illinois State Future Caucus. Co-chairs Rep. Barbara Hernandez (D-Aurora) and Rep. David Welter (R-Morris) will lead the Illinois chapter of a nationwide network of young lawmakers.
Rep. Hernandez, the youngest Latina member of the Illinois House of Representatives, grew up in Aurora and was the first member of her family to attend college. She previously served on the Kane County Board and has been a member of the Illinois House of Representatives since 2019.
“I am thrilled to be co-chairing the Illinois Future Caucus with Rep. Welter,” said Rep. Hernandez. “By coming together to discuss our shared and differing experiences as millennials in public service, I hope our caucus will provide ideas and solutions in navigating the current political divide in our country and encourage others to become more civically active citizens.”
Rep. Welter, a real estate agent and former human resources and procurement manager for a local trucking company, has served in the Illinois House since 2016. He was previously chairman of the Grundy County Board.
“I am honored to be serving with Rep. Hernandez,” said Rep. Welter. “I think we are going to collaborate well together and our caucus will come up with solutions that help all constituents across Illinois, regardless of generation.”
The Illinois State Future Caucus is dedicated to elevating post-partisan solutions to the issues facing the next generation of American leaders. On issues from climate change to criminal justice reform, the Millennial Action Project is committed to building coalitions across party lines in the Illinois General Assembly and throughout the country through their 31-State Future Caucus Network.
