WASHINGTON, D.C. — Earlier today, the Millennial Action Project (MAP) released their P.E.E.R to Peer Playbook, a toolkit for legislators across the country to use as they work to improve election processes and adapt to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The P.E.E.R to Peer Playbook includes five bipartisan policy solutions that would improve election safety and security ahead of voting in November. The solutions will inform and engage lawmakers at all levels with thoughtful and reasonable policy proposals backed by election and public health experts.
The Playbook was crafted in part from MAP’s Partnering to Ensure Election Resiliency or P.E.E.R Project that was launched in March. The policy priorities are as follows:
- Send absentee ballot request forms to all eligible voters
- Remove excuse requirements for voting absentee
- Eliminate notarization and witness requirements
- Ensure safe in-person voting options
- Stay up to date on federal election guidance and grants
“Throughout the first half of 2020, legislators across the country were forced to adapt quickly to challenges posed by the COVID-19 outbreak to administering primary elections,” said Steven Olikara, the Founder and President of MAP. “Many of these efforts were spearheaded by our Future Caucus members, who learned a lot about these different challenges in real time. Now, we have to take the collective lessons learned throughout the primary season and implement the proven solutions we discovered to the general election in November. This toolkit helps legislators and policymakers do just that.”
MAP has been active in the election space before and throughout the onset of the pandemic, working with the 1,000+ members of their bipartisan Future Caucus Network and over 100 policy experts to develop solutions to the problems that have emerged. The P.E.E.R to Peer Playbook draws on this vast well of knowledge and experience to offer guidance on how best to address the challenges that are sure to arise in the future.
