July 17, 2025

Award recognizes Future Caucus’ efforts to equip young lawmakers with tools for collaborative leadership in a polarized era

WASHINGTON — The John P. and Anne Welsh McNulty Foundation announced today that Layla Zaidane, president and CEO of Future Caucus, has been selected as a 2025 John P. McNulty Prize winner. The award recognizes extraordinary leadership ventures undertaken by Aspen Institute fellows that address pressing global challenges through bold, lasting impact.

“Amid the noisy discord of our politics and the chaos of the attention economy, a genuine movement is taking root among the next generation of lawmakers,” said Zaidane. “At Future Caucus, we’ve long believed that empathy, pragmatism and cross-partisan collaboration aren’t just ideals — they’re non-negotiable practices in a healthy democracy. Young public servants across the country are proving that a more responsive, resilient culture of governing is possible. They’re stepping up to lead with clarity and resolve, working within our institutions to transform them from the inside out. I’m honored that the McNulty Foundation recognizes this movement and the promise of a rising generation of leaders to build a better path forward.”

A short documentary film spotlighting Future Caucus and Zaidane’s leadership will premiere on July 23 at the Resnick Aspen Action Forum.

Zaidane joins a distinguished group of McNulty Prize laureates tackling challenges from climate resilience and maternal health to post-conflict education and democratic renewal. More information on the prize is available at https://mcnultyfound.org/the-prize.
