Senator Paul Cicarella

Deputy Senate Republican Leader Paul Cicarella was elected in 2020 to serve in the state senate representing the 34th District including the towns of Durham, East Haven, North Branford, North Haven and Wallingford. He was named as the leading Republican on the legislature’s General Law and Public Safety & Security Committees, and is a member of both the Regulations Review and Veterans’ Affairs Committees.
Paul is a small business owner, retired corrections officer and youth sports coach.
He has served in the field of law enforcement as a Corrections Officer with the Connecticut Department of Corrections. Paul later established a private investigations agency, where he has focused on a wide variety of cases including criminal, personal injury, domestic matters and loss prevention for local and national businesses, as well as the State and municipalities. He is also the owner of National Bug Sweep and Advanced Installations, a security company.
Paul is a member of the East Haven and Greater New Haven Chambers of Commerce and a sponsor and coach of youth athletics. He served as a wrestling coach for the East Haven High School Yellowjackets for 10 years and founded the Town’s first youth wrestling clinic.
Paul is also a volunteer for organizations including Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and is a member and Vice Chairman of the North Haven Republican Town Committee and a member of the North Haven Zoning Board of Appeals. Paul was awarded the 2017 MADD Community Service Award and was inducted into the East Haven Alumni Association Hall of Fame for his wrestling achievements.
In his first term as a state senator, Paul was honored as a Legislative Champion of the Year for 2022 by the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities for his commitment to families in the 34th District and understanding of town governments’ needs.
Paul grew up in East Haven and currently lives in North Haven with his wife Christy, who works as a nurse, their two children Giada and Paul, III who attend North Haven public schools, and their two bulldogs.
