John McCarthy
Future Civic Leaders
John McCarthy is an advocate for youth involvement in the political process. He is active in both the political and non-profit sectors advocating for youth engagement specifically in low-income communities.
He currently serves as the Executive Director of Future Civic Leaders, a national 501c3 organization that provides civic engagement opportunities to high school students living in under-served communities.
In 2012 he was selected to serve as a National Co-Chair of Catholics for Obama, one of the official constituency groups of the President’s re-election.
He is one of the founding members of the ACE Applied Research Network for the ACT Foundation which is developing a research agenda, with particular focus on young, low-income working learners and the issues they face in accessing and succeeding in learning opportunities.
Active in the non-profit sector, he serves on the Board of Directors of the Irish Network of Washington, Young Americans for Diplomatic Leadership, Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good, and The Bayshore Senior Health, Education and Recreation Center. He serves on the Future Caucus’ Action Council.
He has been interviewed, quoted or profiled by Fox & Friends, Huffington Post Live, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Inside HigherEd, NPR, the Washington Post, Canada TV, Swiss Public Radio, and New Jersey Newsroom. He is a regular contributor to the Huffington Post and the National Catholic Reporter.
