FUTURE SUMMIT BRINGS TOGETHER NEARLY 70 BIPARTISAN STATE LAWMAKERS TO DISCUSS ISSUES IMPACTING CONSTITUENTS

WASHINGTON, DC (August 14, 2023) – From August 9-12, a bipartisan group of 67 Gen Z and millennial state legislators from 35 states attended Future Summit hosted by Millennial Action Project (MAP) in Indianapolis to set aside partisan differences and explore innovative solutions to address our country’s most critical challenges.

Now in its seventh year, hundreds of legislators and members of MAP’s Future Caucus network attended Future Summit to build relationships across state and party lines, develop leadership skills to effectively work across the aisle, and connect with experts to garner policy resources and ideas. Policy topics discussed at the 2023 conference ranged from climate change and criminal justice reform to housing and workforce development amidst the rise of artificial intelligence.

“This past year, one-in-five legislators across the country came from the Gen Z or millennial generations. But, of the bipartisan bills passed in all legislatures in the country, one-in-three were authored by young people. Our generations are statistically better at working across the aisle than the generations who have come before us,” said Layla Zaidane, President and CEO of Millennial Action Project. “The problems we face are too complex for us to try to solve them with one hand tied behind our backs, with only one set of ideas or perspectives at the table. When we work together, small actions lead to big changes in ways we never could imagine.”

Future Summit featured speakers included: Julie Jensen, Founder & Co-CEO of Jasper Advisors who led the Washington Football Team’s communications and public affairs functions during the team’s rebrand; Stan Wilcox, Executive Vice President of Regulatory Affairs at the NCAA; Rep. Dawson Holle (R-ND), the youngest elected lawmaker in the history of North Dakota at age 19; and Dr. Ted Johnson, Senior Advisor for New America’s flagship US@250 initiative.

The Millennial Action Project (MAP) is a national, nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to activating young policymakers to bridge the partisan divide and lead a new era of collaborative governance. In 2013, MAP organized America’s first-ever bipartisan caucus for young members of Congress, the Congressional Future Caucus. Shaping the next generation of leadership, MAP’s Future Caucus Network has expanded into 33 state legislatures and grown into the largest nonpartisan organization of millennial and gen z elected officials in the U.S.
