Representative Barbara Hernandez

Barbara Hernandez was born and raised in Aurora, Illinois. She graduated from East Aurora High school in 2010, Waubonsee Community College in 2012 and from Aurora University in 2014. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and a minor in Spanish and currently working on her Masters in Public Administration at Aurora University. Barbara is the first in her family to attend college.

She has been actively involved in the community. Barbara started her passion for politics when she interned in the office of former State Representative Linda Chapa LaVia. At the age of 19, Barbara was elected a precinct committee member. In March of 2014 she was appointed to two commissions—one in Aurora Township and the second in the City of Aurora. In 2016, Barbara became the youngest elected official in the Kane County Board. Currently, she is the youngest Latina as State Representative in the Illinois House of Representatives, she was appointed in 2019.
