State Lawmakers Announce Bipartisan Coalition at Hartford Press Conference

Bipartisan group of Connecticut legislators announce Connecticut Future Caucus to collaborate on common-sense solutions to issues facing all Connecticuters

Hartford, Conn. — This afternoon, Rep. Devin Carney (R), Rep. John-Michael Parker (D), Rep. Jillian Gilchrest (D), and Speaker of the Connecticut House Rep. Matt Ritter (D) announced the launch of the Connecticut Future Caucus, a bipartisan group of legislators age 45 and under. Video of the event can be found here.  

“This is what will make Connecticut a better place, and make the Capitol continue to be a place where we can cross aisles,” said Speaker Ritter. “It’s a real honor for me to be here. Bipartisanship is a priority for me, and I wish you all success.”

The newest caucus in a national coalition, Connecticut is the 31st state to join the Millennial Action Project’s State Future Caucus Network, a movement of young elected officials breaking through partisan gridlock to reestablish political cooperation and create meaningful progress through government institutions. Members of the new caucus leadership released statements regarding the launch of the Connecticut Future Caucus below:

Rep. Devin Carney (R) issued the following statement: 

“I am looking forward to starting the Connecticut Future Caucus and am honored to serve as the inaugural Republican co-chair,” Carney said. “This caucus will serve as a great opportunity to find bipartisan common ground on issues affecting Connecticut, particularly issues affecting younger generations and our collective future.”

Rep. Jillian Gilchrest (D) issued the following statement:

“In today’s political climate, it is more important than ever before to establish a venue for the exchange of bipartisan ideas,” said Representative Jillian Gilchrest. “I am proud to help launch the country’s 31st bipartisan millennial caucus.

Rep. John-Michael Parker (D) issued the following statement:

“I’m thrilled for this opportunity to help lead Connecticut’s new Future Caucus and to work with my colleagues across the aisle on critical issues facing future generations. Whether in our communities or in the legislature, there’s so much more that we agree on than the typical political narratives would suggest—and that’s where we’ll come up with the creative approaches to solve our biggest challenges. From climate to education to community development, we’ve got to bring new energy and new ideas to the entrenched issues hanging over all of our futures, and I can’t wait to work with the members of this bipartisan caucus to encourage expanded civic engagement and help move Connecticut forward.”

The members of the newly-founded Connecticut Future Caucus join the 1,600+ other young, bipartisan legislators and policymakers around the country who are committed to creating consensus in their caucuses.
