Kansas Representative Christina Haswood (D)

Christina Haswood is Dine (Navajo) and was born and raised in Lawrence, Kansas. She started her higher education journey at Haskell Indian Nations University where she earned her A.S. in Community Health, then transferred to Arizona State University where she earned her B.S. in Public Health, and then graduated from the University of Kansas Medical Center where she earned her Masters in Public Health (MPH) in May of 2020.

She first ran for office in the summer of 2020 and won her three-way primary. She was later sworn in January 2021 and went virtual on TikTok for documenting that day. Christina currently serves in the Kansas State House of Representatives for House District 10. Her 2023-2024 committee assignments include, Federal and State Affairs, Health and Human Services, Taxation, and the Joint Committee of State and Tribal Relations. She is currently in the House Democrats’ leadership team as the Policy Chair.

In her first year in office, Christina played a pivotal role in passing HB 2008: Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples (MMIP) Bill passed where the bill created a free MMIP online training course for state law enforcement agencies.

Christina has served on panels at SXSW (2023), was an awardee of the Kansans NextGen 30 Under 30 (2022), and the Climate + Energy Project’s Leadership Awardee (2022) for her work in environmental policy advocacy.
